I am looking for a number of servers (say 40 dedicated machines) each with their own IP, not in the same IP address range, spread around the world. It can be Linux of windows PCs. Does anyone know of a good solution or service for this? I have looked into EC2 from Amazon but they do not have the support I need. Ideas?
Note: I am not looking for caching services or exclusively web hosting. The machines should have different external IPs, possibly different locations and also be able to run desktop windows applications.
The servers will be working independently. They will also be running a .NET desktop application and another 3rd party windows application and need a connection to the internet. Linux or Mono wont work. Linux would work if the version support vmware.

I’m looking to host a site that allows users to upload videos. I was told I need a dedicated server for this. I’ve looked at some hosting companies and the costs are crazy! Most start from 0/mo. and require me to have a server administrator of my own.

So, I’m thinking it would be better to get my own server and host the site. I’m wondering what I would need to do this… Any insights?

Pretty straightforward. I’m a designer looking to upgrade to a dedicated server hosting plan, but as the host does not manage the server themselves, I am wondering if I’ll need outside help.

I can work my way around SSH and install apps and such, but don’t know much about maintaining a server, if this is needed.

I have finally moved to a dedicated server after years of shared hosting. I have a successful site that occasionally has a huge surge of hits, as many as 50,000 in a day. Should I consider limiting available connections, to avoid processor overload? I’d rather have some of the readers try again than damage the hardware or lock it up because there are no limits set on a busy day.
I should add that the 50,000-75,000 hits, when they come, tend to come in a burst of a few hours, rather than distributed evenly over the whole day. The site, incidentally, runs on CentOS5 on a Xeon DS300, 2gb RAM 500gb SATA – just can’t afford the raid redundancy on the more expensive dedicated packages right now (even if people say you can’t afford NOT to, etc, I just don’t have the resource at present, and have to rely on backups).

I’ve been having some issues with Godaddy hosting, namely their virtual dedicated server hosting. I’m thinking of moving my website to another hosting provider, but maybe this time to full Dedicated Server. Any recommendations?

We need something reliable and affordable, and we don’t have time/people to maintain it.
